In a room full of people discussing Katherine Anne Porter's "He," Selena Martinez is the one who says she feels empathy for Mrs. Whipple.

The view is admired, understood, and taken into consideration. 

Dr. Cecile de Rocher, professor of English, acknowledges the thought, the idea that maybe Mrs. Whipple would be a better mother if she had just had someone somewhere along the way to show her how to behave, how to care for her son with disabilities. 

A discussion about literature - as it often does - blooms into a discussion of society and culture. 

It becomes a discussion of real people and real situations.
